Somnopolis

SOMNOPOLIS opens on the eve of the anniversary of 9/11, with New York sweltering under a heat dome as record-breaking temperatures turn the city into a concrete oven. For the world’s leaders assembled at the UN HQ, an acknowledgement is growing that the global climate crisis has reached boiling point, with targets unmet and time running out. Meanwhile, a group of eco-activists have come up with a plan to immobilise the Big Apple and hold the UN leaders to account…

That same day, Samantha Rossi, a single mother with severe insomnia, receives devastating medical news. Then, at precisely 5:25 p.m., everyone in the city – including all the world leaders at the UN – falls unconscious. Everyone that is, except for Rossi and Nick Locke, a wounded detective from the NYPD, who wakes from a coma at the same moment everybody else in the city falls asleep.
