Jón Atli Jónasson is considered one of Iceland’s foremost playwrights. His plays have been performed in London, Paris, Berlin, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Athens. He has written several scripts for film, most notably THE DEEP, produced by 101 Studios Iceland, based on his own play. It was shortlisted at the Academy Awards for best foreign feature in 2015

Jón Atli has been nominated for The Nordic Film Prize on three occasions. He was chosen as the Nordic Radio Dramatist in 2011. He has also written three novels, and his serialized radio drama based on the Guðmundur and Geirfinnur case (Iceland’s most notorious criminal case) won third price at Prix Europa in 2017.

Jon Atli co-wrote the first season of the acclaimed crime series ARCTIC CIRCLE (Ivalo, 2017), produced by Yellow Film in Finland and Bavaria Film in Germany. He has projects in various stages of development across multiple territories, including with Warner Bros. TV in Germany and Turbine Studios in the U.K. TOP OF THE ROCK, an original series he co-created, is in development with Truenorth in Iceland with Leslie Bibb attached to star. He also has an original crime drama, ODD CRIMES, currently in development with Neal Street.
