Geo Doba

Geo Doba is a Writer-Director and the first Romanian graduate of the prestigious Serial Eyes TV writing program at DFFB (the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin), having been mentored by Frank Spotnitz, Ben Harris and Luke Franklin among many others.

Geo was also selected by Frank Spotnitz’s Big Light Productions for their annual Writers’ Apprenticeship Award in 2022 and at the Series Mania’s Writers’ Campus 2022 with the series project Our Killers. While at Big Light, Geo was staffed in two writers’ rooms, one for season 3 of the financial thriller Devils and the other for a spec period drama series, both rooms led by Frank Spotnitz. Following this experience, Geo was staffed in several international TV writers’ rooms, including a comedy and a crime action series. The latter has been greenlit and is scheduled to begin production in 2025.

She is also the Headwriter for a book-to-screen adaptation of a renowned novel, and the TV project is currently being pitched to potential buyers.

Geo serves as Vice-president of SEAN, the Serial Eyes Alumni Network, and worked as a tutor for the Full Moon International Writers’ Room Program at TIFF, a program she played a key role in designing from the ground up.

As an internationally active writer involved in global projects with strong support networks, Geo recognizes the value of a solid community. That’s why she is currently working to establish Romania’s first Writers’ Guild, with the backing of the Federation of Screenwriters in Europe, including WGGB.

To date, her Writer-Director portfolio of produced work includes short films The Apartment, Nollibrot, and Mariana, the sidekick, all of which she wrote and directed, in addition to two episodes for a crime thriller series, another crime series pilot adaptation, several web series, a podcast and multiple short stories published in comic book anthologies.  She also wrote for a late-night show at Comedy Central and sometimes moonlights as a standup comedian.

Geo writes crime, thrillers, drama and comedy and speaks several languages (native-level English and Romanian, intermediate French, Spanish, Italian, and beginner in German and Mandarin).

Geo’s third short film, Mariana, the Sidekick, is set for release in early spring 2025. She is currently working on her first novel, a historical crime thriller, and was recently selected for the prestigious Curtis Brown flagship novel writing program. In addition, she has signed a development deal with an international broadcaster for her crime thriller series Evil Eye, which was previously selected for the Torino Series Lab program.

Geo is based in London.
