Alice Wordsworth
Alice Wordsworth is a freelance theatre and film director working across the UK and internationally. Most recently, she directed THE NEXT MORNING (National Theatre), a short film written by James Graham and commissioned to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, and she is currently Associate Director to Ivo Van Hove on ALL MY SONS (Wyndham’s Theatre), starring Bryan Cranston, Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Paapa Essiedu.
Alice’s directing credits span large-scale theatre, immersive performance and film. They include ANANSI THE SPIDER (Unicorn Theatre – five-star review from The Stage), AN INTERVENTION by Mike Bartlett (Riverside Studios), SPRING AWAKENING (LAMDA), A LITTLE LIFE AT 10 (Southbank Centre), FISHBOWL (King’s Head Theatre), and HOW TO TRAIN THE PERFECT WOMEN (Shoreditch Town Hall / Camden People’s Theatre). She has also directed multiple productions with Amsterdam on Stage, including DUIZEND SCHEPEN, WE’RE ALL MAD HERE, and LOVE STORIES (Amsterdam on Stage).
As an Associate Director, Alice has worked with Thomas Ostermeier on THE SEAGULL (Barbican), Rob Icke on OEDIPUS (Wyndham’s Theatre), Simon Godwin on MACBETH (UK tour / Washington DC), Tim Jackson on F*GHAG (Soho Theatre / Edinburgh Fringe), Belinda Lang on AN HOUR & A HALF LATE (Theatre Royal Bath / ATG national tour), and Ivo Van Hove on OPENING NIGHT (Gielgud Theatre) and A LITTLE LIFE (Richmond Theatre / Harold Pinter Theatre / Savoy Theatre). Her Assistant Director credits include GULLIVER’S TRAVELS, MAGGOT MOON, THE CANTERVILLE GHOST, and THE BEE IN ME (Unicorn Theatre), LOVE ON THE LINKS (Salisbury Playhouse), and COMEDY OF ERRORS (Exeter Northcott). Alice has also worked extensively as a dramaturg on DEAR ANNIE, I HATE YOU (Riverside Studios / Edinburgh Fringe), MANUFACTURED CONSENT (Soho Theatre), NUCLEAR (Theatr Clwyd), F*GHAG (Soho Theatre / Edinburgh Fringe), and THE NEXT MORNING (National Theatre), and as a reader for Wessex Grove, the Bruntwood Playwriting Prize and Hampstead Theatre. Her film work includes FOR SUSIE, WITH LOVE, a private short commissioned for a birthday. She is the Resident Director of Amsterdam on Stage and continues to develop ambitious work across theatre, film and new writing.
