Hipatia Argüero Mendoza (Mexico City, 1988) studied screenwriting at Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC) and later the screenwriting MA at the National Film and Television School (NFTS) in the UK. She has written short films that have been selected in national and international festivals. In 2020 the short film “Crescendo”, written by her and directed by her brother Percival Argüero Mendoza and produced by her sister, Larisa Argüero Mendoza, was awarded the silver medal at the Student Academy Awards for Best International Short.

Her feature scripts and projects have been selected to participate in programs and development platforms such as the Coproduction Forum of the San Sebastián Film Festival, the screenwriting workshop Cine Qua Non Lab, Bolivia Lab, Berlinale Talents Guadalajara, and Nuevas Miradas at the EICTV in Cuba, among others.

In 2023 she co-wrote the feature film “Almost Paradise” (Casi el paraíso), an Italian-Mexican co-production based on the homonymous novel by Luis Spota, with director Edgar San Juan. Theatrical release is programmed for September 2024 in 1,500 screens in Mexico.

Her latest feature project is “Follow”, directed by Gonzalo Tobal and produced by BAFTA-winning producer Fred Berger (La La Land). The feature, currently in postproduction, is a co-production between Three Amigos, Amazon Mexico and Range Media Partners.

She has also directed two short films. The first, “If They Kill Me” premiered in Femcine Chile in 2022 and has screened at festivals like the Monterrey Film Festival, San Diego Latino Film Festival, and Porto Femme Film Festival, among others. “Roast Dinner”, her second short, premiered at Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival in 2023, where it won the “Best Actress” Grand Prize for the lead, Sharon Rooney. The UK premiere was at BIFA qualifying Women X Film Festival. “Roast Dinner” continues its festival journey.

She currently lives in the UK.
